Car Accident on Illinois Route 41

          On Monday, January 4th, 2106, at 1749hrs, the Knox County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a multiple vehicle accident at the intersection of Illinois Route 41 and Knox Road 1300N.  It was determined that 3 vehicles were involved, 2 full size pickup trucks and a midsized 4 door sedan.

 

          The driver of one of the trucks, identified as RONALD PASCHAL, 45y/o from Galesburg, IL, advised that he was east bound on Knox Road 1300N and did not stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Illinois Route 41.  PASCHAL’s vehicle struck a 4 door sedan driven by, ELIZABETH DECHOW, 40y/o from Abingdon, IL, that was south bound on Illinois Route 41.  This sent DECHOW’s vehicle into the path of a north bound pickup driven by, APRIL MARKWORD, 46y/o of Rio, IL.  MARKWORD’s vehicle also struck DECHOW’s vehicle.

 

MARKWORD and PASCHAL were transported to St Mary Medical Center for treatment while DECHOW was transported to Cottage Hospital and later Life Flighted to St Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  MARKWORD and PASCHAL were reported to have minor injuries.  DECHOW was reported to be at St Francis Medical Center listed in serious condition.

 

PASCHAL was issued 2 traffic citations, one for Disobeying a Stop Sign and one for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

 

The Knox County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Abingdon Fire Department, Illinois State Police, Galesburg Police Department, Abingdon First Responders, Galesburg Hospital’s Ambulance Service, and the Abingdon Police Department.
