Eastbound lanes are back open

KNOX COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND ILLINOIS STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH

The following preliminary information is being released by the Knox County Sheriff's Office:

WHAT: Multi-Vehicle, Multi-Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE: Eastbound Interstate 74, Mile Marker 63, Knox County

WHEN: Thursday, January 30th, 2025 at 3:12 a.m.

VEHICLE:

Unit 1 -  Grey 2012 Cadillac sedan. Driver deceased.

Unit 2 -  Grey 2019 Toyota SUV. Driver deceased. Passenger Life Flighted.

Preliminary information is the accident involved a wrong way driver. The Knox County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police are actively investigating the scene. Eastbound traffic lanes are anticipated to be shut down for a period of several hours as the crash is being investigated.

Eastbound traffic will be redirected at Exit 54. Commuters can take US Highway 150 E to Illinois Route 78 near Brimfield to regain access to Interstate 74 at Exit 71 or traffic can take Illinois Route 97 to eastbound Illinois Route 8.

Notice will be provided when Interstate traffic can resume. Please avoid the area until then.
