The Knox County Sheriff's Office has received several reports of concrete items being thrown from Interstate and Highway overpasses. To help prevent death or great bodily harm the Sheriff's Office has deployed resources and conducted surveillance on overpasses in Knox County.

On February 26th, 2024, the Knox County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the 1900 block of West Knox Road, the overpass of US Highway 34. A passerby complained of concrete being thrown from the bridge.

Knox County and Warren County Investigators responded and began working together. Multiple resources were deployed.

While on scene working this incident, the Knox County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police were dispatched to Interstate 74, mile marker 44. Deputies arrived on scene, and determined transmission fluid was poured from the Knox Road 2000N overpass. Multiple cars were damaged from the concrete and transmission fluid.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined the transmission fluid was stolen from a nearby business.

With the resources deployed, the Knox County Sheriff's Office developed three suspects who were identified and located at a residence in Knox County.

The following suspects were arrested:

Mason Stone (19), Theft over $500, Burglary, Criminal Trespass to property, Vehicular Endangerment, and Criminal Damage to property $500-$10,000

Grant Oyler (18), Theft over $500, Burglary, Criminal Trespass to property, Vehicular Endangerment, and Criminal Damage to property $500-$10,000

Hayden Herschelman (18), Theft over $500, Burglary, Criminal Trespass to property, Vehicular Endangerment, and Criminal Damage to property $500-$10,000

Knox County Sheriff Jack C. Harlan Jr. made it a priority to apprehend the suspects for the safety of the motoring public.

 

All subjects are innocent until proven guilty.
